Start with current marketplace rules
FBA preparation and labeling requirements vary by marketplace, product, and shipment workflow. Check current Seller Central instructions before approving packaging or printing labels.
Work from the current shipment workflow
Amazon marketplace and fulfillment requirements can vary by country, product, seller account, shipment method, and current program rules. Create the shipment in the relevant Seller Central workflow and use the resulting destination, box, pallet, appointment, carrier, and label instructions as the current operational reference. Do not print large quantities of packaging or release cargo from an old screenshot or another seller's instructions.
The seller should confirm whether products use manufacturer barcodes or Amazon barcodes, which units require additional preparation, and which labels must remain visible after bagging, wrapping, bundling, or overboxing. Each variation and sellable unit must connect to the correct product identifier.
Connect unit, carton, and shipment data
| Level | Confirm | Common failure |
|---|---|---|
| Unit | SKU, barcode, condition, package, warnings | Wrong or covered product label |
| Set | Items secured and marked as one sellable set | Components separate during receiving |
| Carton | Units, dimensions, weight, box ID | Data differs from the physical box |
| Pallet | Configuration, labels, wrapping, appointment | Labels inaccessible after wrapping |
| Shipment | Destination, carrier, customs, delivery booking | Cargo moves before instructions are final |
Separate Amazon receiving from import responsibility
A fulfillment center is a delivery destination, not automatically the importer of record. The seller must confirm the importer, customs broker, product admissibility, classification, value, duty, tax, documents, and local registration or responsible-party requirements that apply. The final receiving address and appointment process do not replace customs planning.
If DDP or another door-delivery arrangement is proposed, confirm who can legally act, what the quotation includes, how duties and taxes are handled, and what happens if customs requests information. Marketplace inventory deadlines should not be used to justify an inaccurate product description or unsupported compliance claim.
Create the marketplace shipment and confirm the customs route before China-side pickup—not after the labels are attached.
China-side coordination checklist
YIMO can coordinate supplier preparation, packaging and label questions, carton data, visual records, China pickup, freight-provider communication, and delivery planning. The seller account owner remains responsible for current Amazon instructions and for confirming product and destination obligations with qualified parties.
- Current packaging and prep instruction for the exact product category.
- Correct product, box, and pallet labels matched to physical units.
- Final carton quantities, dimensions, weights, and shipment references.
- Importer, broker, duty, tax, product document, and delivery arrangements.
- Photographic record of agreed preparation and labels before dispatch.
Create a preparation approval before mass packing
Prepare one representative sellable unit and one representative shipping carton using the current product, packaging, barcode, warning, insert, set, quantity, and protection instructions. Photograph every side and test scanning where appropriate. The seller account owner should approve the preparation reference before the supplier completes the full quantity.
Record which party generates labels, which party prints and applies them, and how files are protected from being mixed between SKUs or shipments. Box IDs are unique to the generated shipment and should not be copied to additional cartons. If carton quantities or dimensions change, update the shipment workflow and labels as required before dispatch.
- One product identifier for the correct sellable unit and variation.
- All other scannable codes covered when the current rule requires it.
- Prep, warnings, sets, and protection visible in the approved reference.
- Carton contents, dimensions, weight, and box ID reconciled.
Plan receiving exceptions and ownership
Products may be delayed, refused, relabeled, repackaged, redirected, or charged additional fees when preparation, labels, appointments, carrier requirements, or shipment data are incorrect. Decide who monitors the shipment, who can respond to the marketplace or carrier, and who pays or approves corrective action. Keep photographs, label files, carton data, customs records, delivery proof, and appointment information together.
Inventory sent directly from China may be difficult to correct after departure. A small China-side verification against the current shipment plan can be valuable, but it remains a defined visual and record check rather than a guarantee that the marketplace will accept every unit. Amazon's current account instructions remain controlling for the seller's shipment.
Connect product and carton preparation
- Correct product identifier and scannable label.
- Required bagging, sealing, protection, or warnings.
- Accurate units per carton, dimensions, and gross weight.
- Shipment and carton labels matched to the final packing plan.
Confirm importer and final release
Do not assume Amazon will act as importer of record. Confirm customs responsibility, duties, taxes, product documents, delivery address, and booked route before pickup. Marketplace rules change, so the current shipment instructions remain the source of truth.
Changes after shipment creation can invalidate labels or appointments.
